Privacy Policy for Audio Tour Alaska LLC
Effective date: September 15, 2026
Audio Tour Alaska LLC
PO Box 110477, Anchorage, AK 99511
Email: sourdough@audiotouralaska.com
This policy covers two apps from Audio Tour Alaska LLC, Alaska Wayfinder and Audio Tour Alaska, and our website. By using an app by Audio Tour Alaska LLC or website, you consent to this Privacy Policy.
Please read the entire Privacy Policy before using the Service.
By visiting, accessing, or using an Audio Tour Alaska LLC app or website, you expressly consent to the collection, use, storage, transfer, processing, and disclosure of your information as described in the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, do not access or use any part of an Audio Tour Alaska LLC app or website or make a purchase. Beyond this Privacy Policy, you are subject to the TERMS OF USE.
1. No accounts
Neither app requires a name, email, phone number, or password. There is no login. Purchases are stored with your Google Play or Apple ID, on the device, and (if you use a redeem code) as an activation on our servers.
Because there is no account, we cannot offer “delete my account.” You can clear local app data in system settings. In Alaska Wayfinder you can also remove a community photo by emailing us (see Photos) or using Flag photo.
2. What we collect and why
Precise location
The apps collect precise GPS (latitude and longitude) to:
Play the highway audio chapter that matches where you are driving
Show you on the map
In Alaska Wayfinder, precise location is also used for Google turn-by-turn navigation and to attach coordinates to photos you choose to upload. In Audio Tour Alaska, if you tap directions to a tour start, the destination is opened in Google Maps. We do not upload a live GPS track to our servers.
We use precise location only to operate the app you are using (tour audio, the map, and, in Alaska Wayfinder, navigation and photo pins). We do not use your GPS to choose which sponsored listings you see, and we do not publish your live position as a social profile.
Background / Always location is required for hands-free touring with the phone locked in a cup holder or the screen off. In Alaska Wayfinder it is also required for Android Auto and CarPlay.
On iOS, the first permission is While Using the App (required). Always is requested next and can be skipped; chapters then pause when the phone locks until you turn Always on in Settings.
Photos
Photos apply to Alaska Wayfinder only. Audio Tour Alaska does not use the camera and does not have community photos.
Camera use is optional. If you upload a photo to the community map, we receive the image, a generated photo ID, size, and GPS coordinates. On iOS a copy may be saved to your Photo Library (add-only). On Android a copy may be saved under the device’s Wayfinder pictures folder.
Community photos are public. Do not upload illegal, sexual, harassing, or copyrighted content, or identifiable people without permission. We do not automatically blur faces or plates.
Limits: up to 10 map uploads per day per device; photos appear on your map immediately and on the public map after about 30 minutes (featured editorial photos may appear sooner). The camera locks above about 15 mph unless a passenger override is used.
After you upload, Amazon Rekognition (an AWS image-moderation service, not a chatbot or LLM) scans the JPEG. Photos that fail that check are not left on the public map. Flag photo (Tour Map, on another traveler’s non-featured photo) reports it to our servers and removes it from that device’s map. We review flags in Wayfinder Studio (a person, not Rekognition).
To request deletion of a photo you uploaded, email sourdough@audiotouralaska.com with the approximate location, date, and time.
If you appear in someone else’s community photo (or you are a parent or guardian of someone who does), you can use Flag photo on the Tour Map the same way any traveler can, or email sourdough@audiotouralaska.com. We aim to act on flags and email requests within 24 hours.
Analytics (app activity)
We do not collect your name. Usage events include an event type, optional region or item id, a timestamp, and a session id. Those events do not include latitude or longitude.
In Alaska Wayfinder, examples include GPS chapter played, download started, purchase completed, and photo uploaded. On Android, a random UUID is stored on the device and reused until you clear the app’s storage. On iOS, a random UUID is created for that app launch and is not saved as a durable device id.
In Audio Tour Alaska, examples include app opened, trial started, purchase completed, GPS vs list playback, download started or failed, chapter finished, and time between chapters (including chapter names). A new random session id is created each launch on iOS and Android. Settings has Share anonymous usage (on by default). Turning it off stops new events and clears the on-device queue.
We do not collect advertising IDs (AAID/IDFA) and we do not use the data for tracking as Apple defines tracking (ads, ad measurement, or data brokers).
Purchases
Google Play Billing or Apple StoreKit process payment. We never receive your card number.
In Alaska Wayfinder, we record which region pass was unlocked (Anchorage, Kenai, Parks, or Bundle) so the app can download audio and open routing.
In Audio Tour Alaska, we record which highway tour or bundle you unlocked so the app can download audio. A 5-chapter trial, if you start one, is stored on the device; it is not a store subscription.
Redeem codes, when an app offers them, are checked on our servers. We receive the code and record that it was used to unlock a tour or region. We do not receive the buyer’s name, email, or payment from a third-party booking site.
Place search
If you type a destination in Alaska Wayfinder trip planning, that query is sent to Google Places so we can suggest in-Alaska places. Audio Tour Alaska does not send typed place queries to Google Places.
Sponsored activity listings
Sponsored listings apply to Alaska Wayfinder only. Audio Tour Alaska does not show them.
Some activity cards and corresponding map pins are paid listings from local businesses. Those activity cards are labeled Sponsored. They appear in the Wayfind page, the same way editorial activity cards do. We do not use your GPS, analytics, or a user profile to pick which sponsored listings you see. We do not send your name, location, or analytics to those businesses.
We do not use advertising IDs (AAID/IDFA) or third-party ad networks (for example AdMob).
What we do not collect
We do not collect contacts, microphone audio, health data, or a user profile. Audio Tour Alaska does not collect photos.
3. Who we share with (vendors)
We use companies that run the product for us. They are not ad networks. Local businesses that pay for a Sponsored listing do not receive your personal information.
Google LLC
Both apps use Maps so you can see the tour map. Precise location is processed for that map. Payments on Android go through Google Play. Alaska Wayfinder also uses Navigation SDK, Routes, and Places for turn-by-turn and trip search. Audio Tour Alaska may open Google Maps for directions to a tour start. Google’s SDKs may also collect device identifiers, crash and performance data, and other diagnostics as described in their privacy documentation. Google Privacy Policy · Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms
Apple
App Store and StoreKit for iOS purchases. Alaska Wayfinder also uses CarPlay system UI. Apple Privacy Policy
Amazon Web Services
Both apps: tour audio packs, catalogs, and analytics events over HTTPS (currently U.S. regions). Alaska Wayfinder also: photo uploads, photo flags, redeem-code checks, and Amazon Rekognition scans of traveler JPEGs for nudity, violence, and similar labels. AWS Privacy Notice
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. California “Do Not Sell or Share” does not change a toggle in the app because we do not sell or share in that sense.
We may disclose information if required by law, a court order, or a government request. If Audio Tour Alaska LLC is sold or merged, the information described in this policy may transfer to the new owner so the apps can keep running.
4. Security and retention
Traffic to our APIs uses HTTPS (TLS). No method of transmission is perfectly secure.
In Alaska Wayfinder, photos stay on the community map until they are flagged, we remove them for policy reasons, or you request deletion. Anyone (not only the uploader) can email us to request deleting a photo.
In both apps, analytics are kept until we stop operating that app. We do not delete them on a 90-day timer. You may ask us to delete events we can reasonably find. On the device: Alaska Wayfinder on Android stores a random analytics UUID until you clear the app’s storage. Alaska Wayfinder on iOS creates a new analytics id each launch and does not save it as a durable device id; deleting the app or clearing app data drops anything still queued on the phone. Audio Tour Alaska on iOS and on Google Play creates a new session id each launch. In both of those Audio Tour Alaska apps, Settings has Share anonymous usage (on by default); turning it off stops new events and clears the on-device queue.
Purchases remain with Google or Apple; we keep on-device unlock state until you delete the app (Restore Purchases can bring StoreKit/Play entitlements back).
5. Children
Both apps are built for adult drivers. The iOS listings are rated 13+. Google Play shows its own age rating by country; that is not the Apple 13+ badge. We do not direct these apps at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child uploaded a photo in Alaska Wayfinder, or appears in one, email us and we will remove it.
6. Your rights
You may email sourdough@audiotouralaska.com to ask what we hold that we can reasonably locate, to correct it, or to delete it. In Alaska Wayfinder that is typically a photo and related analytics. We may need the approximate location, date, and time to find a photo, because there is no account. In Audio Tour Alaska there are no photos. We can delete analytics only when we can reasonably find them.
California
This section applies to California residents. It describes personal information we collected, disclosed for a business purpose, or sold in the twelve months before the effective date at the top of this policy. That twelve-month line is the reporting window for this notice. It does not change the retention periods in section 4.
The category names are California’s. The examples are what these apps actually handle.

Precise location is sensitive personal information under California law. We use it only to operate the app you are using: the tour audio, the map, and, in Alaska Wayfinder, navigation and photo pins. We do not use it to choose sponsored listings or for advertising. There is no separate “limit the use of my precise location” control, because the app cannot play the matching chapter, draw the map, navigate, or place a photo pin without that location. You can turn location off in the phone’s settings. The tour and the map stop working while it is off.
We use the information in the chart for these purposes:
- Provide the tour, the map, and, in Alaska Wayfinder, turn-by-turn navigation and community photo pins
- Check a redeem code and record that it unlocked a tour or region
- Complete a purchase through Apple or Google, without receiving your card number
- Send a Wayfinder place-search query to Google Places when you type a destination
- Scan a Wayfinder photo for moderation and review flags
- Keep the service secure and fix failures
- Understand which chapters and features are used, using the analytics in section 2
- Comply with law, a court order, or a government request
We collect it from you and your device. In Alaska Wayfinder, another traveler’s photo can include you if you appear in it. We do not collect it from advertising networks, social networks, or data brokers.
We disclose it as section 3 describes. Google receives precise location for the map and, in Alaska Wayfinder, for navigation, plus a place-search query if you type one. Apple and Google receive what their stores need to complete a purchase. AWS receives analytics events and, in Alaska Wayfinder, photos, photo coordinates, flags, and redeem-code checks. Other travelers can see a Wayfinder community photo and its map pin. A business that pays for a Sponsored listing does not receive your name, location, or analytics. We do not upload a live GPS track to our servers, and we do not publish your live position.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. There is no “Do Not Sell or Share” switch in the app, because there is no sale or share to turn off.
If you are a California resident, you may email sourdough@audiotouralaska.com to:
- Know the categories we collected, the purposes, the sources, the categories of recipients, and the specific pieces we can reasonably find about you
- Delete personal information we collected from you, except where the law lets us keep it (for example a security record or a legal claim)
- Correct personal information we can reasonably find
- Ask us not to treat you differently for making a request
To verify a request, we use the details you can give us. For a photo, that is the approximate location, date, and time. We cannot match a request to an account. In Audio Tour Alaska, Settings has Share anonymous usage. Turning it off stops new analytics and clears the queue on the device. It does not delete events already stored on our servers. Email us if you want those deleted when we can find them.
We do not offer money, a discount, or any other financial incentive in exchange for personal information.
We do not give personal information to other companies for their own direct marketing. A California Shine the Light request can ask us to confirm that. Put “California Privacy Rights” in the subject line.
Someone acting for a California resident may email the same address and attach a written authorization signed by that resident.
Other U.S. states
If you live in another state whose privacy law gives you a right to access, correct, delete, or appeal a decision about your personal information, email sourdough@audiotouralaska.com. We handle that request the same way we handle a California request, for information we can reasonably find.
Canada, the EEA, the UK, and other countries
The apps and the website are operated from the United States for travel in Alaska. The information in this policy is processed in the United States by us, by AWS, and by Google.
If you use an app from Canada, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another country, you may email sourdough@audiotouralaska.com to ask what we hold that we can reasonably find, to correct it, to delete it, or to object to how we use it.
If you are in the EEA or the UK, we process location and related data to provide the tour you requested and to keep the service secure and reliable. You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Using the apps sends that information to the United States.
7. Platform notes
Android: Alaska Wayfinder uses Android Auto, Play Billing, background location after Play’s prominent disclosure, and a persistent analytics UUID until storage is cleared. Audio Tour Alaska uses Play Billing, background location for cup-holder touring, a new analytics session id each launch, and Share anonymous usage in Settings.
iOS: Alaska Wayfinder uses CarPlay Navigation, StoreKit, two-step location (When In Use, then optional Always), an analytics session id that is not persisted across launches, and Photo Library add-only (we do not read your whole library). Audio Tour Alaska uses StoreKit, the same two-step location, an analytics session id that is not persisted across launches, and Share anonymous usage in Settings. It does not use CarPlay or the Photo Library.
8. Changes
We may update this page. The effective date at the top will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy. Material changes may also be described in an app or store update.
